Author Event on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, 2022

I am beyond excited to announce that A Seat at the Table will host me for a limited time engagement for my first author event in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day on March, 21, 2022!

This is an honor! As an inclusive author who incorporates integral characters into his stories that just happen to have disabilities, being able to share my experiences as an author and as a parent of a child with Down Syndrome is my way of changing the world.

One book at a time.

So why choose World Down Syndrome Day? Well, for me it is an important day to celebrate my child and many who share the same unique qualities as awesome individuals. As an author who believes modern-day fiction fails to deliver crucial characters to plots that contribute to the story and just happen to have a disability, I seek to break the mold! Why can’t books be thoroughly engaging, entertaining, keep you on the edge of your seat in suspense, and deliver strong people with a disability who show others like them they can be included in novels and books?

Makes perfect sense to me.

Society is made up of all kinds of people. We see them everyday. They are our friends, neighbors, and family members. The ones we love and cherish. So in my mind, why should mainstream books then not include a mix of of world? Someone with a disability should not be shoved to the back of the room, hidden away. Those days are over my friends. We should embrace our differences and get to know what makes us all unique. Celebrate it and revel in the magnificent qualities a diverse population brings to the table.

Really makes for great plotlines and stories!

I am looking forward to discussing my book and upcoming children’s book that really brings inclusion to the forefront with a main character who not only changes the past, but potentially the future. Talk about what it means to be an inclusive author changing the game and looking to bring my novels to the world to really bring people of all different make-ups front and center. And important to me, giving my child and other people just like her a prominent role and visibility in today’s fiction.

The world is diverse. Our books should be too.

About A Seat at the Table Bookstore

A Seat at the Table is a local bookstore with a mission. They believe that everyone literally should have a seat at the table and be part of the community. The same goes for the books and novels they carry. Being inclusive of authors underrepresented who have difficulty getting their voices heard, carrying content that appeals to a wider range of people who are unique, have a disability, or otherwise have difficulty finding topics that they can relate to that appeals to their needs. The bookstore offers a safe place to browse, hosts events to enrich the community, and has a café to feed your thirst and appetite.
